The Enhanced Learning Initiative aims to provide underprivileged students with the opportunity to excel in the Government Scholarship exam, a pivotal milestone in their educational journey. By offering essential resources and support, we seek to level the playing field, giving these students a fair chance to compete alongside their peers. Our ultimate goal is to help them secure placements in reputable schools where they can receive a high-quality education and gain access to better opportunities for personal and academic growth. This initiative not only addresses their immediate educational needs but also paves the way for long-term improvement in their lives by breaking the cycle of poverty through education.
The initiative was launched following a request from Mr. D. S. R. Jayasekera, Assistant Principal at the school, who sought financial support for extra classes for these 17 students. These children come from low-income families in the 'Hamuge Watte' area, where most parents are daily wage labourers who cannot afford additional classes for their children. These students have been marginalized due to their economic circumstances, but Mr. Jayasekera is determined to reintegrate them into society by showing that we care and are willing to help.
The project involves engaging a teacher to conduct 4 hours of extra classes each week, spread over 2 days with 2-hour sessions per day.
